SJN Day Away Corner
St. John Neumann Day Away Outdoor Gathering
Day Away held its first outdoor gathering in the parish garden area on June 16th for participants, their caregivers, and volunteers. It was a shortened version of the program and included a craft, brain-booster games, and a boxed lunch for all. The garden area was the perfect shaded setting with a pleasant breeze that kept the temps in the 70s. Everyone pre-screened for COVID safety and were careful to use the hand-sanitizers provided. Masks were available but not required.
True to our Day Away gatherings, there were sounds of fun, laughter and stories shared. It felt good to be connected again after all these pandemic months. With the tropical temperatures of July, the outdoor gatherings scheduled, then rescheduled, and finally postponed until mid-August. Virtual brain booster games occurred as the backup plan.
Many of us are not ready to transition to indoor gatherings because of the COVID-19 variants. We’ll prayerfully monitor the CDC Guidelines and everyone’s confidence about the safety aspects.
On all other Thursdays, we will continue to offer virtual brain booster activities
using Zoom format. We welcome family caregivers
and their loved ones who are in the early to moderate
stage of Alzheimer’s or related dementia.
